TitleBlock

Use the tutorial on Prodesktop.net to get you started on making a border. It is not perfect, but it should help.

 

• Download the file for the drawing border. http://dhscad.pbwiki.com/f/titleblock.dra

 

• In previous years, students have made their own border by following the instructions on http://prodesktop.net/ - make formats tutorial Using this existing border should make life a little easier for you. The border makes your drawings more professional looking.

 

• When the file is downloaded to your folder, open the folder and then open the drawing. There are two sketches, Border and Object

 

• Activate the Border sketch and add your name and change the course/period information. Save the file. You now have a border that you can use for all your drawings.

 

• Open the folder holding the file, Right click on it, turn it into a read only file

 

• When you need to make a drawing file of your design, Copy the TitleBlock file, rename it for the design you are going to print, then open it.

 

• When you open the drawing file that you created in the previous step, you will see the border and no object inside the border.

 

• To add a modelling view, go to the Drawing Menu and choose "Add Modelling view" There are a few parts of this window you will want to pay attention to. At the top are two buttons, From Workplane, and From Window. It is usually set to From Workplane. Below those buttons, will be a window showing all the designs you currently have open. Make sure that the design you need is highlighted. Below that window is a pulldown menu for workplane. Base is usually the default choice. Press ok to add the modelling view.

 

• If the view is either huge or tiny, then you will need to change the scale. The scale is the ratio between paper and object on the paper.

 

• To change the scale, go to the Drawing menu, choose Sheet Setup, click on the middle tab for Scale. There are two fields, paper and object. Set the scale so that the object will fit on the page, press ok, if it is still hard to see/fit, change it again.

 

• Change the scale in the title block to match the scale of your drawing from the previous step.

 

• Choose the three workplanes you want to show, one at a time. Usually the base will go in the top left, Frontal will go in bottom left and Lateral will go to the left of the titleblock.

 

• Make an isometric view Set your view of the design file to Isometric (shift i) Add a modelling view, choose From Window, press ok.

 

• Place the isometric view in the upper right quarter of your view.

 

• Add your measurements. First the easy way. Select the Select Views button, usually 5th from the top on the right side toolbar. Left click on the view that shows where you made your dimensions, right click, choose import sketch dimensions. The dimensions should show up.

 

• If your dimensions don't import, you may have 1 - tried to import dimensions from an assembly, the dimensions are on the original file, not the assembly. 2. deleted the dimensions from the design after you put them on. 3. chosen the wrong sketch.
